Off The Wall: Sculpture

Off the Wall: Sculpture from the Mott-Warsh
Collection featured over 30 sculptures by artists who employ a broad spectrum of styles and techniques to create three-dimensional and wall mounted works of art. Artists represented in the show included Nick Cave, Barbara Chase-Riboud, Sonya Clark, Mel Edwards, Sam Gilliam, Richard Hunt, Alison Saar, Therman Statom, Bernard Williams, and more.

African Art Now!
February 8 - July 27, 2019

​African Art Now! featured an array of dynamic artworks made between 1956 and 2018 by artists who defy our expectations of African art. The exhibit included drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, and video from the Mott-Warsh Collection, by leading and emerging artists, such as El Anatsui, Omar Victor Diop, Seydou Keita, Zaneli Muholi, Wangechi Mutu, Toyin Odutola, and Yinka Shonibare. These contemporary artists explore a variety of artistic approaches, materials, and themes to create artworks influenced by personal and communal interests, and global events. 

Music As Muse: Melodic Inspirations in Art

Music and sound have been sources of inspiration for visual artists for centuries and were the focus of Music as Muse, a sensory-filled exhibit featuring the work of artists Radcliffe Bailey, Romare Bearden, Camille Billops, Iona Rozeal Brown, Roy DeCarava, Nefertiti Goodman, Barkley Hendricks, Wadsworth Jarrell, Jennie C. Jones, Sam Middleton, Kori Newkirk, Ebony Patterson, Alison Saar, Frank Stewart, and more. Also
​on view was the Flint iteration of Satch Hoyt’s towering, interactive, sculpture installation,
​Say It Loud.
